If it's a mouse that has a wheel on the bottom, the rollers inside need to be cleaned. If it's a laser mouse, it's probably going bad.
There's also a possibility that your system has been infected with a virus. If it's none of the above then YES, your mouse has some poltergeist going on - call the exorcist!!

First of All take the mouse out from printer and put back in, that might fix the problem.
Well! If it is a regular mouse with ball, then you need to take the ball out and clean it inside out, you might have one of those tea, coke or coffee resedues in it.
And if it is a laser (optical mouse) try to put in a plane surface or better yet take some book that has a hard cover (mostly white will help) and place the mouse on it and see if it helps.
If it is wireless mouse try to check the menufactuerer website fo any update to the driver.
-- For windows OS only ----
If it still does not help then try to slow down the speed of mouse to catch those unusual events that happen with the cursor. Go to START-> settings->Control Panel and choose mouse. The first tab that says buttons you can see you can lower the speed. Try that that might help you tell what is that could be causing it.
if it still does not help, try to borrow or buy another mouse and put that in and if the problem persists, then you definetly have some virus lerching in the computer. But sometimes, having low memory or virtual memory completely being used causes it as well. Increase the size of your virtual memory. See windows help how to do it.
And if it continues to do the same thing then it is time to upgrade either your Operating system or your PC.
Best of LUCK!!

Mine did that a while back so I cleaned the rollers and the ball but that did not help. Since I am a technician I took the whole mouse apart and found hair or threads wrapped around parts inside. A thorough cleaning took care of it. A complete disassembly may not be worth it depending on your mouse. Might be cheaper to replace it.

It could be the ball inside the mouse that is causing the problem.

Your mouse could be bad...try unplugging it and if it stops happening, that could be the problem. Once it is unplugged, try plugging it back in first before you go buy another one and see if it helps.
