B/c there rich socialites and the rich in this country makes more ratings then just showing ordenary people commiting crimes and being stupid. If u noticed if a ordenary man had done what Mel Gipson had done it would be just a footnote but since he had done it, it was huge news.

Because this was a very high-profile case, with a lot of things going on; a grandstanding D.A., rich, white college boys, and black stripper.
I detect strong racial overtones in your question, obviously having to do with the fact that the Duke players are white. Did you not notice that the mainstream (mainly white) media already had these guys tried and convicted at the very begining? Did you not realize that these guys were portrayed as spoiled, privileged, out-of-control, alcoholic rapists?
I am actually on your side. I hate the fact that rich people have advantages in the legal system that most of us do not. However the players names and faces were all over tv, radio, Internet, and newspapers across the country. They did not do it, they are innocent. Everybody knows who they are now, and they may never recover from this ordeal. They deserve to have people know that they are not only falsely accused, but innocent as well. Even though they may be rich, white, spoiled, etc., they were the victims here.

There was only a public outcry because it was high profile, and people heard about it. I think there should be outrage when ANYONE gets falsely accused of a crime.
The Duke case was big because it shouldn't have gone as far as it did, and the DA trying the case was as much a part of the story as the three guys that Crystal Gayle Mangum falsely accused. The DA took the case this far and built up the media circus to drum up support for his re-election.

Your pain is not my pain is not their pain, is not a killer's pain.
Does that mean that your pain is any less valid?
So, then, when looking at this situation, which I am so unaware of except in headlines, I have to just get to this point:
If that were YOUR son, unjustly accused, and even though you are female, you felt that there are all kinds of ever-hatin' nasty little girls who could say such evil things to put your boy through this...
wouldn't you be upset?
It's a horrible thing that there are innocent people who go to jail.
But I think the nature of the "crime" being so sensitive makes the accused even more vulnerable if innocent. It certainly would if they went to jail!
They'd be the same victims, lacrosse players or no!
And if that were my boy, oooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOhhh, don't even let me get started.

If the severity of a crime is measured by the suffering of it's victims, then falsely accusing someone of rape is a particularly heinous crime. The Duke defendants will always bear the scars of this much like a rape victim bears her emotional scars for life. Add to that the doubt that future defence attorneys will be able to raise in the minds of jurys-acquitting future rapists! I think there is a fundamental necessity to prosecute the false accuser woman in this case.

BECAUSE THEY ARE WHITE!!! Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were so quick to jump on the coat tails of a poor raped black woman...why, because she was victimized... NO!!! Because she was black. They didn't care that she was likely lying... there was no credible evidence to support her story. In fact, her story kept changing not like a traumatized rape victims story changed, it changed as the evidence changed. Blacks expect everyone who says anything negative towards them to be punished or fired (Don Imus) *cough* but these guys will never get past the stigma of this they do need an apology and there should be an outcry. This will do more to these guys than just hurt their feelings like being called a name would. Calling blacks a stupid name can get whites punished, but blacks falsely accusing white guys and possibly ruining their lives is an oopsy...come on. More hypocritical black BS.

injustice is injustice, don't get me wrong. I am going to try to answer your question. I think people care because those young men, while wrong in hiring a stripper, were hung out to dry before being convicted. the preconceived conviction was based only on race. she was poor & black they were rich & white, therefore, they were deemed guitly without due process. a media bias that has ruined many lifes right and wrong.

These guys are rich and white, and they were also spread *all* over the news. I'm glad one at least had enough compassion and empathy to say in the press conference that this happens to others "who don't have our resources" all the time, and he worries about them.
