How would it change the world?

To some of you: I realize this is not likely to happen anytime soon, if ever.
It's just a hypothetical question to wonder what it would be like if the u.s. didn't exist and another country became that much more powerful. So please do not say "It'll never happen". Never is a long time and all great empires have fallen in history (not that I'm saying U.S. will fall). We just don't know what the future holds.

Just to point out, I don't hate the U.S., heck, I live in it.

What I meant was that if even all empires have fallen in history, what makes you think that a country, such as the U.S. couldn't? If history has taught us anything, it is that anyone can fall, no matter how great they seem to be at the time. Besides, the U.S. could arguably be considered an empire.

I believe that if the U.S. is conquered that it's likely to be from within, that we will have become so liberal, so politically correct, so socialistic that we will practically hand ourselves over to whoever is in the right place at the right time.
I don't think that most of the people in the world really have any real concept of how much the world would change without the U.S. So many people are so busy hating us just on general principles, but they are always ready to ask for and take as much help as they can get from us.
Americans donate more than any other people in the world, which is a good thing because we are so blessed. Our country is no closer to perfect than any other, but we try and there would be vast differences without us.

The Brits.

Simply because the US would become part of the Commonwealth (old British Empire) and join Australia and Canada in having a monarch but still self-governing.

The beer can be chilled if you want it cold, fish and chips and the introduction of the Chicken Tikka masala and the Balti.

The US would have a national health service, so hospitals would be free.

Also the introduction of brick buildings, very good at resisting fast winds.

Plus the US would kick butt in the Commonwealth Games!

As for the world, the world would have to hate Russia or something.

The Canadians would be the easiest conversion. Canada currently exist from the protection of the United States. Canadians understand their way of life is greatly influenced by American military, culture, etc., in every aspect, therefore, would be the likely choice. The Canadian government would then finally have a real military necessary to maintain and safeguard all citizens instead of relying on the protection of another.

We forget the Japanese when they attacked Pearl Harbor thought our main Naval force was in San Diego due to the aircraft carriers missing there (Pearl Harbor). If they had known otherwise the Japanese invasion force would have kept coming into the U.S. and easily taken the west coast initially.

German submarines routinely docked off our Atlantic coast during WWII, came on shore, ate dinner, partied, etc. before going back to destroy our ships. They could have also made "headway" into our nation at that time.

Mexico was influenced by Hitler in WWII. He almost had them convinced to wage war on the U.S. during this period that we forget about. Mexico did control the western U.S. not too long ago in our history, remember the Alamo.

Point is, we have been vulnerable as a nation many times in our history. We currently are a nation of many from other countries and the American European culture that developed this country as we know it is slowly evaporating. We need to respect and treat all as we would like no matter who is in charge.

Canada, absolutely. If Canada overpowered the US, it would probably simply keep going and take in Mexico as well, so you would have the whole North American continent as one democratic country, with enough natural resources to make it independent of the rest of the world.
In fact, if the US was overpowered by Canada, it would prove to be a huge economic benefit. The way to economic health seems to be by losing a ward - for example, Germany lost WW2 and look at it now! Ditto Japan.
And if Canada took over the North American continent, you would have universal medicare - everyone could get medical treatment when they needed it, without having to mortgage the family home. Of course, the US would have to make a few adjustments, especially in language.
Mothers would be known as 'Mum' instead of 'Mom'
Those sticky things that go on glass windows would be known as deck-alls, not dee-cals.
etc.
But it would work out very well. Especially for the Canadian snowbirds who wouldn't have to go back up north at the end of their government-mandated six month travel limit, so they could stay where they were and spend lots of money and boost the economy even more.

Mr Rourke and Tattoo representing the country Fantasy Island. The US can not be conquered at least by anyone in the world right now, China included. They might get control of a few cities. Maybe LA, New York, but as soon as they get out in the countryside watch out. We have a right to bear arms and most everyone I know has plenty along with the ammo to hold out quite awhile.

The Indian tribes (such as Cherokee, etc). Because the United States government deserves to be their subservient chicken. Wrongs would be corrected and the world would take note and reflect on the triumph of good over evil.

No one.
One I like my rights hate the patriot act but love my country.
What makes this a funny question tome is that a friend and I have had a debate about this for fun.
I believe if we ever was invaded not only would our entire Army be here allot of people would draw up arms and the invaders would be fighting the military and citizens kinda like fighting a Hydra

The American people.

The wheeler-dealers who have trashed our Constitution and created a cult of fear in the name of national security, who are attempting to turn us into an empire in the name of exporting freedom, who claim to represent us while deciding every issue in favor of their lobbyists, and who take every opportunity to destroy our environment in the name of saving the economy - for their fat-cat cronies - should get a taste of how it feels to be conquered.

Travel and tourism without the trappings of a police state, an economy that obeys free-market rules instead of favoring the fossil fuel industry, the productivity that would be available if the working poor had access to preventive medicine instead of overloading the emergency rooms, productivity from the 5 million people we warehouse in jails, the ability to lead by example instead of attempting to rule by force - the list of positive changes in the world that could result is endless. We might run a little short on tar and feathers but it would definitely be worth it..

No one wants to be "conquered". Actually your scenario is rather fklawed since the United States has the most awesom military POWER in the world. Our technology is far superior than most nations...I say most because China is scaring me more than Korea.

The demise of the American empire (if there ever IS such a thing) will not be from a conventional "vini, vidi, vidici" ('I came, I saw, I conquered ~ Alexander) type thing.
