I was recently told by a teacher of mine that I'm a purist... I understand (and agree with) the meaning of the term as it relates to literature, but is there something else that I'm missing?

A purist, like the word itself and its root, is about purity. You like to see things as all good or all evil, you like to have nice clean plot lines and nice clear conflicts. In my mind, the problem with this is that it isn't reality nor is it real life. Real life is always in shades of gray with no blacks or whites. Life can get complicated and good people can do bad things, sometimes.

You want everything to be clear and specific, but life just isn't like that ...
