I believe Mitt Romney will be the best candidate for the Republican Party in 2008. He is a fresh face in American politics especially in Washington. He is a new face of fiscal discipline and conservatism in the nation. The American people doesnt care if he is a Mormon, the most important thing is that he will do an effective leadership once got elected into office. I would like to see Governor Romney in action once the true campaign in the 2008 primaries started giving a great upset to front-runners, Senator John McCain and former Mayor Rudy Guilliani.

I don't know much about Mitt Romney. But everything I've ever read about Romney, even things that try to put him in a positive light, do sort of make him out to be a flip-flopping elitist. Dude just seems to have a strange and inconsistent history. Most presidential candidates claim that their "agenda" is a about truth, justice, and equity. Yet it seems weird that a non-resident Mormon ended up as governor of Massachusetts. I think that, unless there is some sort of back-room deal going on within the Republican party, Romney is just not going to have enough general appeal to the masses to get the nomination.

I agree with you. He is the best chance the Republican party has in retaining the White House. I don't think he could beat John Edwards, if he gets the Democratic nod, but Mitt could probably beat any of the other Dems currently in the race.

I like Romney and right now he's my choice. But like I've said before regarding Obama: let's hear what the person says, how they say it, what they stand for whether they are black, white, man or woman, Catholic, Methodist, Morman...whatever! So far to me as an independent voter, I'd like my choice to be between Obama and Romney. I'd like to hear their stands on issues and not have to listen to any others try to muddy up the waters. As a voter in a border state, immigration is a hot button. As one who is nearing senior citizen status I'm also interested in Social Security, health care for us elderly folks, and help with prescription drugs.

I don't give a damn about the Mormon agenda. What does he offer in a secular way that would make me see him as better than all the other candidates? His stand on the ISSUES are?
So few people are willing to talk issues. Especially those from the right. Why is that?

I think Romney is a politician first. He is probably more moral than some of our politicians are.
But, if Fred Dalton Thompson doesn't run, I'm probably gonna end up voting Libertarian, like I usually do.

I've answered a similar question earlier, but feel strongly enough to post it again:
He's from Michigan, but ran for the MA Senate seat. Then ran for governor of MA and won. I don't think he's ever cared about MA, but always knew that, either as a senator or governor, it's a stepping stone to the presidency. I don't believe he ever cared to govern MA, and is known in our state as the absentee governor. He started campaigning for president the day he won the gubernatorial race. He pandered to whoever or whichever group he thought would vote for him. He was pro-choice, anti-gun, pro-gay marriage/civil unions when he needed to be to win over MA voters, and now that he's running for prez officially, he's suddenly pro-life, against gay marriage and is a card carrying member of the NRA. Now, regardless of what your personal views on any of those issues are, I resent anyone who panders for votes. Arguably, what politician doesn't pander -- he's just so transparent it's kind of embarassing. No matter his political affiliation (republican or democrat), I wouldn't vote for him.

I like him because he's Conservative. Besides, Mormons are not weird. So many people are afraid of Mitt because he's Mormon.
Mormons are Christians and have strong moral & family values. We don't push our adgenda on others.

Who cares about his being a Morman?
I just don't think I can trust him on illegal immigration, but may end up voting for him as the best of the big three. Then again, I'd rather vote for Hunter or Tancredo.
