If something as petty as this is causing so much controversy, I guess some people here have too much time on their hands! What do top answerers receive anyways? Not much recognition or no significant prizes, I guess......

It's determined by points level, and within points level, by the percentage of best anwers within that category.
Just like baseball itself, it's about numbers.
