Do you have a particular period you are most interested in? Choose something which intrigues you because you will enjoy researching it & this will earn you a better grade in the long run. I will suggest Norman Rockwell. He illustrated many covers for "The Saturday Evening Post" which reflected current events (WWI, WWII, desegregation, etc.). His work which appeared on the cover of said magazine is a natural progression thru American history also. Hope this helps.

What about re-creating the original block of marble that Michaelangel's David was sculpted from. Then the progressive views as more and more work was done until the final incredible finished product.

Michaelangelo has many unfinished marble works in various stages of completion. I was privileged to see them in Florence, Italy.

I did my art history paper on the history of cartooning. I enjoyed writing it because I grew up watching the same cartoons that I was writing about, and I learned so much. Good luck
