Guinea pigs cannot catch a majority of human diseases. Furthermore, genetic testing has shown that, even among "feral" guinea pigs, all are domestic. They've developed antibodies against most human illnesses they could potentially catch (same reasoning exists why people in the tropics are less susceptible to malaria, but more susceptible to small pox, than Europeans).

I have a guinea pig & he's never been immunised & he has never been ill. If you're worried why not call in your local pet shop, ask the local vet or ring the RSPCA. They'll have all the info you need. But personally, unless there's a real possiblity your guniea pig's going to come in to contact with wild guinea pigs/rabbita & pick up diseases then i would say immunisation is not necessary.

i have kept guinea pigs and have never heard of this.
I wouldnt imagine they would need to be immunised against anything.

Yes, I agree with the children handling part. Guinea pigs, like rabbits are domestically bred, not wild. So for most people, they are ok unvaccinated.
