Have her meet you at a coffee shop.
Pull out a paper and see what is happening that night.
If the chemistry is right you will enjoy each others company doing nothing.
Women want to be with equals.
Treat her like any of your male friends.
The goal is to give her an experience that others don't give her.
Read her horoscope to her and make fun of her sign.
Don't get caught up in doing something, but focus on making her feel different emotions including a little anger. She will get to learn how you calm her down when she gets upset with you.
In other words play and have fun. BTW, movies are really stupid dates because you don't learn anything about the person.
What you could do is have her pick one movie and you pick another and then say the winner of a scrabble game decides it. What happens is you spend a half or so playing with each other before you ignore each other in the movie theater.

if you're a young person (such as in high school or just starting out in life) well, then you have a good reason to be thrifty and i'm sure the girl will understand.
you can fix her a nice dinner yourself, or take her to a reasonably priced restaurant.
find out what her interests are.
do you have any museums or cultural centers in your area? you can go to one of those, as well... do something where you can talk and get to know each other a little. i think movies are ok, but not good for the first few dates, because you can't talk and decide whether you want to see each other again.
if you are an older adult, and you are having financial problems, you can't afford to date anyone... get a girlfriend after you've straightened out your finances.
take care.

Cooking dinner is always a good call. Also a date at a park or beach where you can spend time doing unique things (like feeding ducks or walking on the pier) is a good option. Allows for a lot of interaction.

Picnic on the beach. Romantic and sweet and very cheap! Bring blankets, pb & j sandwiches and some water or juice to drink. It's sweet and thoughtful and unless she's stuck up and spoiled, she'll love it!

If you have to worry about feeling or looking cheap, than you are perhaps either with the wrong person or you have to be more confident in yourself and not what you buy or show them.
real love costs nothing, real friends and lovers are free

My husbands and I's first date was fun..We went to a park and just went swinging and talked for hours then we went to get some ice cream. But mostly we talked until the early morning. Driving around all night, having fun..It wasn't romantic but we got to know eachother alot, and it was fun.

The whole point is spending time together. If she/he's into you then it's not really going to matter what you spend or dish out. It's not the money that makes you who you are right? So it shouldn't be the money or lack there of that matters when trying to find that chemistry...

Pack a picnic, go to the park or the lake, take a walk, go play tennis or frisbee, just be together, that way you'll get to know each other.

If it's a blind date, go for coffee. If it's someone that you already know that you want to impress, why are you being cheap? :)
