Don't listen to those telling you to run out and buy a different dress. The little black dress is a classic and while others will look back in 6 months in horror at having bought something trashy and trendy, you'll probably be out at a club dancing the night away in your fab classic. For the big night wear a killer shoe, hot earrings and hair whatever looks best on you. Clutch purses are an a la moment way of adding some colour. Silver would be great.
And later when everyone else is putting away their pastel chiffony glittery crap, you can vamp it up for a night out with a pair of killer boots and crazy tights, or fishnets.

Accessorize, Get long beads that will go to the end of the v-neck...1st buy a pair of sexy shoes, not black shoes that will help enhance the black..Maybe you can find a pair of sexy shiny grey, silver or metallic shoes that looks like glitter...The beads should also be the same or very similar. Find a sexy anklet that will match the necklace...Find bracelets that you will have to layer with silver, black, silver or black silver black...good luck
I don't know if you live near NY but in the wholesale district you can purchase all of what I said for $20. I know cause I shop there all the time..

Accesories. If it is strapless, a chunky necklace. Keep you rmake-up simple. It is you rnight to shine. I LOVE glitter and use it a lot for Prom make-overs. Most people go with dark black eye shadow and red lips. I like using fleshy tones and smoky eyes. They are sexy but understated. A little sparkle gooes a long way. You also might think about hair accessories. I love to see something unexpected like a jeweled clip, barrette, or boby pin. Have fun and take lots of pictures. Don't drink, you won't remember one of the biggest nights in your young adult life! Congratulations!

You can dress up a nice black dress with jewelry, shoes, or a shaw. Anything that causes constrast can make a black dress dressy.

Play with your makeup....go sexy, go colorful, go bold. Find something you like that makes you look killer without making you look like a hooker.

Do something with your hair. Wear a tiara or clips or barettes that will add some color or sparkle. Wear a ribbon in you hair to add color. Or just do your hair and get spray glitter to put in it. I did that for my junior homecoming, lots of fluffy curls (it was almost a white girl afro) and had fine glitter spray in it....it looked great.

Use jewelry to play up your dress.

Use your shoes to make it pop.

Wear gloves, elbow length or right past your elbow. They add drama.

Use a cute bag, or make one.

Throw color in with your nails.

Get a long ribbon or scarf to use as a belt.

If the v-neck is really deep, get a layering bandeau top to add color. Try: http://www2.victoriassecret.com/commerce/application/prodDisplay/?namespace=productDisplay&origin=onlineProductDisplay.jsp&event=display&prnbr=ZM-211806&cgname=OSKEYCLOZZZ&rfnbr=2456

Be careful if you try to change your dress, you don't want to ruin it. But if you are willing to try, bleach the bottom of it and dye it another color. Make a slit in the side and show some leg. Make a slit in the side or the back and lace it up with pretty ribbon.

like others have said, some colored jewlery or accesory (handbag, etc.) can really make a black dress look stunning. A little (or a lot) cleavage never hurts!

you couldproabably get a nice colored like purple or blue ribbon and sew it to the top (outline) of the dress so it has some color and make a belt sortof of that same color, then get some shoes that match that color and you could also get some beads or something and sew/glue them on to the dress in one area only so that it looks glittery....
hope this helps

Just add a little color! When i wear black to work I will ususally wear a teal or red necklace, bangly bracelets and colored shoes. Just make sure to not overdo it. Good luck!
