i have a 1989 nissan sentra that after overheating started stalling everytime i stopped. i put water in the car and brought it home little by little because i had no-one to tow it and i didnt want to make the problem worse. it makes a rattling sound and i heard its a warped head. my question is, is this a very expensive problem to fix? what needs to be done? i obviously know very little about cars and how they operate. your suggestions are greatly appreciated!

The first thing you need to do is have the cooling system pressure tested to verify if it is a head gasket or something else...once you know for sure what the problem is, then you can get a better idea of cost.

Your wiring likely got soaked, which would account for it running badly, that may be other problems, but stick with what caused the overheating first...

A warped head doesn't cause rattling. It's very expensive. If the overheating has progressed to rattling, it's a pretty good bet the engine is gone.
It could have been overheating at a stop because the radiator was clogged or the fan wasn't working.

well first off don't just put water into the radiator, always use a mixture of water and antifreeze. Depending on what part is warped cuz there are a few things that are called heads on a car it could be easy to fix or it could be a few days to fix it, either way take it to a good mechanic and don't try anything urself unless u have someone who knows what they are doing to watch and help u out.

well your going to have to get another head for it the motor is an e16 and they are getting harder and harder to find motors for so hopefully you can get away with just having a head job done, those little motors can't take any heat and once you get them hot the heads are done.
