Getting back into biking after 25 year hiatus. Taxes are due...so looking at a used Virago that fits the budget. Would pass onto wife (she's 5' 2)...I'm 5'9 and 210. I would like a V-star or Vulcan eventually.

Sounds perfect.
That's what we wound up doing with my CL360.
It was my first bike, and went to my (former) wife when I moved to a slightly larger, different style bike.

I looked at the Honda Rebel, I like the looks of the Virago alot more. The fact that the seat is 27 inches is a plus for me. I am a female, grew up on a honda xr 80 and haven't ridden in a lotta years. I am getting ready to buy a Virago. It would be a good bike for your wife, however you may want a bigger one. Then again, maybe this one would be better to get you back into riding. Have fun with whatever you decide on.

I love my little 250 Virago.. It will cruise at 75 if you need too. It handles great and has a low seat night that you both will like. Also the pegs are set forward so you won't be too cramped.. I get 75+ MPG.. I also owned a Honda 250 Nighthawk 10 years ago, and it was a good riding little bike too. I would choose the Virago over the Honda, but they are both good starter bikes.. Buy as new as you can afford and, buy witch ever bike you can get the best deal on.

I've heard very good things about the Virago, and I'm considering it for my first bike (I don't ride yet).
I've heard it isn't great for a long highway riding though, but like I said I have no personal experience. I think it depends on what kind of riding you'll be doing.
All in all, great bike from what I've heard.

The Ninja 250r is also a great bike, but a guy your size might
want to opt for the 500. Great bike, no problem having enough speed on the highway, and handling is great. ( I hear it's better for long highway trips than the Virago)

just traded up from virago to a 650 custom the virago was great for around town less than 30 miles but if your planning on taking trips later start with the 650 its not any harder to ride. if you will look in our group their is a lot of lady riders with a custom ps the virago 250 isnt highway legal

take the motorcycle safety course before you buy

Your wife wants a Virago 535. I bet it accelerates better at freeway speeds than a 250.

I have a Virago 700, and it doesn't kill me. Since you're experienced, you really should get something bigger than a 250!

Nice plan. I'm sure your wife will enjoy the Virago.

Yes, that would be fine, or a Kawasaki Ninja 250, or a Honda Nighthawk 250, or a Suzuki 250 or GS500E.

not much of a difference between a 250-535 all and all. so go bigger save some money.
