Afraid you just have to do algebra! However, I can give you a few times when it can be useful. You have a tree in the garden - will it hit the house if the wind blows it over? You will need algebra to work out the height of the tree (pythagoras)!

You have 1/2 kilo of flour, how many cakes can you make with that amount of flour?

When you are decorating a wall, how much paint or wallpaper will you need?

If you are tiling a floor, how will you work out how many you need if it is an odd-shaped room?

You have to convert litres per mile to miles per gallon for petrol, to give you some idea if your car is doing a decent consumption level.

You and your mum are saving up for a holiday, how much do you need to save each week if she pays for 2/3 of the holiday and you pay for 1/3?

I hope these all give you times when you use algebra, even if you do not realise it at the time!

How many M&Ms do you need to buy to fill the new bowl on top of the television?

So, sorry - keep studying!!!

Yes you will need it. Let's say you have a husband and two kids. So, there's four of you in your family. After all bills and obligations are paid you have 200 to feed your family for the next two weeks. How much can you spend per day on average for food for your family? Real life situation. Algebra in use.

Like many other school subjects, you may not need the actual content of algebra, but you will need the thinking skills and discipline it teaches you. I am glad that your mother has a good job, but if you take school seriously you may end up with an even better job than she has.

For increasing cubic binomials the final formulation is as follows: (a + b) ^ 3 = a^3 + 3*a^2*b^a million + 3*a^a million*b^2 + b^3 on your case, a is x and b is -y^5 So (x - y^5)^3 = x^3 + 3*x^2*(-y^5)^a million + 3*x^a million*(-y^5)^2 + (-y^5)^3 Simplified: =x^3 - 3x^2*y^5 + 3x*y^10 - y^15 :D

I don't know WHY schools want to teach algebra. I NEVER had it, never use it, nor have I ever SEEN it in my adult life. (42 now)
What kills me is that schools around here don't even teach the kind of math that IS needed for being an adult=
business math, learn to do checkbook, etc.

Depends what you do for a living. Its rarely a daily requirement but some of the basic things can be useful on times.

My partner told me the other day that he had finally found a use for all the algebra he learned at school - it's called Microsoft Excel.
