I was driving to Medford, OR and my car started smoking from underneath. I get out to look under my car, and my catalytic converter was hot as hell, but i had also noticed a little transmission fluid on the ground. What could it be: Catalytic converter, rear seal, or the transmission coolant lines.

It doesn't have a constant leak though..only after i run it for a lil while and then park it and turn it off. My transmission fluid level is over wut it is supposed to be.

If it was a a rear seal, wouldn't it be pouring transmission fluid?

Have it diagnosised & repaired ASAP, as ATF is extremely flammable. The cause is most often the rear seal. Not an expensive repair.

Never mind the catalytic converter, they're supposed to get hot, and they won't cause a car to break down. Focus on the transmission fluid leak. A coolant line would be an obvious point of failure. Might also be a rear seal but it'd have to be badly damaged to leak that much. You'll want to fix that ASAP before fluid loss damages the transmission.

Cats are supposed to be hot as hell. That's why they need heat shields. The smoke was probably just transmission fluid getting on the cat. You'll just have to use your eyeballs to find where the leak is.

if the catalytic converter turns red its bad and it wont let your engine breath. if you have a trans leak and its dripping onto this cherry red catalytic converter it will smoke. if the cat was just hot to the touch and it burned you this is normal they get hot. as for the trans leak you have to clean it off and then check for leaks so you can find exactly what part is leaking.

What you're inquiring for is "Limewire for vehicle restoration".......Sorry, it would not exist........ AutoZone has restoration recommendations for quite a few makes at their internet website. that's in all likelihood as sturdy as you're going to discover, with out risking copyright infringement.
