My muffler was disconnescted to the tail pipe and I got power on my engine. I have now 25 percent extra power. I also have now great savings on gas, about 35 percent.

What do you think happened? Is the muffler defective?

Yeah, the muffler might be screwed. You also might wanna check your catalytic converter as well.. A clogged muffler is almost like you trying to breathe through a straw

25% more power and 35% better mileage is outrageous. That simply isn't true. What happened is similar to putting a performance muffler on a car though. They tend to be a little less restrictive (and consequently louder) and can lower the pressure in the exhaust system. This is good in naturally aspirated vehicles and gains can be felt by an experienced driver when modifying an exhaust system to a less restrictive style on larger motors. For example a V8 Mustang will make more power gains than a Mini Cooper simply because the engine blocks put out more power at the flywheel.
Your muffler doesn't seem to be defective. A small power gain to none at all is to be expected. The muffler is only installed on cars to reduce sound pollution.

I don't really know the particulars I will guess your tail pipe was disconnected from your muffler and your power and fuel economy went up. The muffler, if it is still connected to the rest of the exhaust system except your tail pipe would mean the tail pipe was restrictive. If the muffler is not connected to the exhaust system that would indicate a defective or improper muffler for your car. Simple as that

depending on the design of the muffler and where it was disconnected it allows more air to flow more freely through the tail pipe which is the general concept of aftermarket exhaust pipes. As for the increase in gas mileage i don't know why that would happen, it could be that the increase in power has encouraged you to be less agressive on the gas.

Your muffler was plugged. you'll actually have better pickup and power with the proper one installed than not having one installed.
