Not all girls think its gross.
My daughter has now got her 30 gallon tank set up and is wanting a mountain horned ??? She is waiting for our animal control officers to confiscate one.
Even if you don't have a lot of time you can set heaters and lamps on timers for them. I have seen some that are real cool myself but I don't want one. Do please remember all the reptiles in rescue because of people getting them and then not wanting them. Start getting involved with a rescue and find out which is best for you.

I'll put a couple categories here. I know you said lizard, but I had to put at least one snake here. Large Snake: Boa Constrictor Surprisingly docile, this snake has brought our family joy for quite some time. They become more affectionate the more you handle them as small snakes but remember to treat this animal as a snake and not a best human friend. Small Lizard: Horned Dragon Most of these guys are pretty happy being by themselves, but they are known for sitting on each other and being relatively good pets for people. Plus they look great.. and yes it's a real lizard. Medium Lizard: Chameleon Yes these can be pets. However, they are hard to care for or at least can be very picky. With their eyes and camouflage abilities, they are high on the cool scale. They can change colors but it's not like cloaking in Star Trek ;) Large Lizard: Iguana or Large Turtle I'd consult an owner or specialist when it comes to larger lizards. It's been some time since either one of these animals were in our house and I was a child when they were.

Lizards make great pets, but please do some research before you get one. They require special lighting, a heat source, and vitamin supplement. I'd recommend against an iguana as these get very large and can become aggressive if not handled. Good starter lizards are bearded dragons or leopard geckos. They are very friendly and easy to care for.
For all the equipment and a baby dragon, you're looking at about $200; $140 for a gecko. If you're spending less then that, make sure you're not missing something essential.
Good luck

This depends on the type of lizard. We love our leopard gecko. Lots of lizards are fast so they can't be handled a lot. They also have unique needs. As someone else mentioned, the actual pet may be inexpensive, but the set up you need for it will cost a LOT.
Also, most lizards only want live food, so think about how often you can purchase them and if you want crickets, mealworms, superworms, etc around. Crickets take food and water, too....plus the mediums and up chirp :-o

I have only had a veiled chameleon-very awesome pet, 2 water dragons, always active, and an iguana that i could not get tamed down from the time i had it.
First you will need all of the accessoriesand have them setup before you buy it to make it feel settled and less chance of it escaping. I found the water dragon the best since they tame down easily and dont bite, are usually active and its fun watching them play in their water dishes. the chameleon was neaat as it was always changing its colour pattern in temperatur change and if it got angry. one thing to remember is most lizards must have live food so for me to get crickets i have to drive 1/2hour to get some. also i dont find the lizards to smell at all, its the crickets that have the smell

Lizards are very difficult to care for. They require special lighting, temperatures and diets. And some get very big and can be very aggresive, and need huge cages. Most lizards need very big cages. If you really want a reptile go with a leopard gecko first they are very docile animals and require a 15-20 tank. Make sure you do a lot of research first, and if you decide to get one you should adopt.

I had an iguana once when I was younger his name was harley, they are not too bad to have as a pet but the do get big, So we let him rome in the house on his own but his tail is what hurts, it usually minded his own business, But I think its a cool pet to have. Just make sure you check with like petsmart on the best nutrition you should give him.

I think they are, I love lizards. Make sure you have all of the equipment set up for it before you get it though. I got a lizard as a spur of the moment thing and didn't have everything set up for it properly, it ended up freezing to death. :( Poor lizard. I felt horrible.

It depends on how big and what type of lizard are you getting. Yes. like snakes they are cool! Practicality wise, they dont need much attention such as feeding and grooming like what you are doing with common cats and dogs. Less maintenance!
