Some TVs have a High Def tuner and you can see High Def using an antenna - that is what I do.

There is also High Def available from some Satellite and Cable providers, beware of the word "digital" - it does NOT mean that it is High Def.

And yes, if you are coming from a Sat or Cable box and want TRUE High Def, you will need component video cables (3 RCA Cables - minimum) or DVI (a digital cable with a large square connector - better) or HDMI (really same as DVI with different smaller connector which includes sound - best)

Well, there are a few things you need.

First off, you need to know whether or not your TV has a HD tuner built in. Most newer ones do, but many don't to save on manufacturing costs so they can keep the price low.

If it has an HD tuner built in, you can receive over the air HD signals using a decent antenna.

If it does not have a built in tuner, then you need to either buy an external tuner, get HD satellite or HD cable. To connect any of those tuners, you will need a cable that can support HD signals such as Component cables, DVI or HDMI. Which one you need to use all depends on your television.

Component is the lower quality, HDMI and DVI give the highest image quality for larger screens.

You need to have a high definition cable box. Or transmitter and then cables that connect that to your TV
