(6x + 7) / (2x + 9) = 5/3

cross multiply
3(6x + 7) = 5(2x + 9)
18x + 21 = 10x + 45
8x + 21 = 45
8x = 24
x = 3

proportion Problem

6x + 7 / 2x + 9 = 5 / 3

Cross multiply the means and the extremes

The means = 5(2x + 9)
The extremes = 3(6x + 7)

5(2x + 9) = 3(6x + 7)

10x + 45 = 18x + 21

10x + 45 - 10x = 18x + 21 - 10x

45 = 8x + 21

45 - 21 = 8x + 21 - 21

24 = 8x

24 / 8 = 8x / 8

24 / 8 = x

3 = x

Mulitiply both sides by 2x + 9
6x +7 = 5/3 (2x +9)
6x + 7 = 10/3x + 15 Subtract 10/3x + 7 from both sides
8/3x = 8
8x = 24
x = 3
