Yes, he has helped to keep Sharpton relevant.
I am waiting on people to call for Sharpton's boycott especially in light of the fact that he stuck himself ( both he and Jesse Jackson) into the Duke Lacrosse case and helped to inflame racial tensions and now there they have now been exonerated.
I beg to disagree with you on one thing. Don Imus is not a racist. He insulted everyone, jews, whites, europeans, hispanics etc. This has always been the baliwick of the "shock" jock, which Imus is.
Imus has done and will continue to do things that benefit children of all races and families of all races. He just never publicized what he has done. Others would have crowed.
Take for example the bill for autism.
1 in 150 children of all races are affected by autism. Both he and his wife have fough valiantly to get the bill passed. The only reason people found out about his efforts with it was last year when they tried to get 800 million toward funding the bill, the Republican Representative in charge of the bill sat on it and gutted the bill in favor of a bill he wanted to help his cronies pass to the detriment of the children. Imus got on the radio waves to get people to call their individual representatives and tell them to get their a*s in gear and pass the bill in its original form.
In any event, if you listen to the black community, they use the same vernacular to describe themselves and others in the community yet they all called for his blood like a pack of ravening dogs just because he is white.

The best thing that happened to Al Sharpton this year was discovering that he is a descendant of one of Jesse Helms'
ancestors!! What a hoot !
I remember too well the Tawana Brawley incident and the near race riot it caused. Did Al Sharpton ever apologize for trying to incite a riot?

Imus was a gift to Sharpton. And Jackson too for that matter. It has got them back in the news and diverted attention away from their racist statements about the Duke lacrosse players. And that was much more serious. They attempted to get 3 innocent men sent to jail on the sole basis of their color. And that is racism.

Sharpton is an opportunist.
Imus gave him what he needed to take focus from the real problems blacks face in America, which has nothing to do with racism.
Let them ALL graduate high school, put off having babies until AFTER they are married adults, and let them all out of prison because they are all victims...aren't they?

Don Imus: ignorant bigot with a grade school sense of humor
Al Sharpton: evil, race baiter, hater of whites
Imus was, as he says, just being an idiot. Sharpton makes tons of money by perpetuating racial disharmony.

I was also surprised to hear Imus was still in the Hate slinger business.
Jobs or announcers must be scarice if he was doing College Basketball.
Does anyone even bother going to college anymore???
Face it $200K in students loans is hard to pay off flipping burgers in Saugus.

i think he is a strong supporter for us though sometimes he goes all out. In this case i do support his action because Imus attacked a group of innocent women for no reason. Though if Imus apologized and he meant it, then that should be the end of it. I dont believe he should be fired. I just think he should have been taught a lessen to have freedom of speech but not racially insult. There is a difference.
