there was smoked in the house because the stove backed up, i have a smoked detector and a carbon monoxide detector and neither of them went off, I pushed the test buttons on them and they beeped should I be worried they aren't working properly? and how can i find out if they are working right?

You can buy smoke detector test spray at the hardware store, or home improvement center.
It's an aerosol it will trip the detector when sprayed.
If the CO2 detector is more than 5 years old, replace it as that is how long they last because of the materials used to sense the CO2 breaks down.
Get your chimney cleaned too!

Also, smoke detectors have a life expectancy. They should be replaced every 7-10 yrs. Check with mfg'r. on that.

Smoke detectors work by reflecting light.There is no reflection in clean air.Smoke is like fog---your headlights shine off the fog.That is what smoke detectors detect.Dust can set them off,too.I wouldn't worry about the carbon mono,but the smoke would worry me.Replace it,then you can sleep well.It shoulda went off.

It could be that the concentration of smoke wasn't at the level to set them off. If you are concerned then get new ones, they aren't that expensive. More important is why the stove bakced up. that is what would concern me also. Good luck

CALL THE FIRE DEPT AND ASK THEM TO COME OUT AND DO A CHECK IT'S FREE AND THEY MAY EVEN GIVE YOU REPLACEMENTS FOR FREE
