A friend of a friend of a friend said it was RE: meaning replying to. Is that accurate? or does it mean RE: Regarding?

He also said IRO- Important, Response Optional, and RN: Response Needed.

Any insight into this?

RE: Regarding, when you answer a letter or write to a company it will make it easier for them to respond, if you put your account number and the reason for writing or replying to a letter.

Yes, the following are the "dude rules" for using a urinal. 1. No talking to the dude next to ya. 2. Don't look at his junk, stare straight ahead. 3. If he farts, pretend it didn't occur, same for you. 4. If he breaks these rules, he's a crude bastard. 5. finish as quickly as possible, wash hands and never look back.

Regarding. Sometimes we start a letter or email and put a subject heading. ie. Regarding: whatever. I wouldnt say in reply to. Or ' with regards to'.

No. It is quite impolite. In a men's room one enters, does one's business, washes hands, shakes head in frustration wondering what the hell the women are laughing about in the restroom next door, and moves on out.

Both are close, it is "in the matter of" so "concerning" or "about" is a better translation.

I knew IRO as "In Receipt Of" and RN as "Registered Nurse" but like slang these things drift with usage.

It is "regarding" or "response"

I have rarely seen IRO or RN, but when you do, that is what it means.
