I was wondering (as my uncles a biker) what is it about leather that gives it such an awesome look to it? is it because it's been used in films like the matrix or is there another reason?

It is in the eyes of the beholder.To me the leather look is dirty at times.People tend to carry it out too far.I am co owner of a harley davidson shop and leather is very popular .Leather is a great safety precaution in case of a accident and to break the wind from the body when on the open road.I love to wear leather but it is like taking my shoes off when i leave the shop for the day.Do not wear leather 24/7

Basically I agree with Raul V, that it's because it comes off a dead animal. As for its being used in the movies, it is used there because it is thought of as being macho/sexy in the first place. Our awe for wearing a dead animal's skin goes back to the days when animal skins were our only clothing. And probably if some guy wore a bearskin, he was assumed to be tougher than the guy who wore rabbit skins and the female who wore a bearskin was probably spoken for by the guy who killed bears. It harkens back to the primitive "might makes right" caveperson part of us IMHO.

Leather is beautiful. So is suede.. It's durable. One of the oldest materials used in clothing. It looks "cool" because it's SKIN.
Bikers wear it, not because it looks good - but because it protects them - road rash isn't pretty.
Matrix. LOL.. sheesh.

It's psychological.
First you are more protected...kinda like a second skin. Second is that it appeases your primal 'hunter' nature by wearing the skin of an animal. Oh ya, and it's been glamourized and associated with sex. Whatayouthink?

us biker folk wear it for a reason (other than it looking cool). it is tough, and makes ya feel tough. leather is super sexy, especially on bikers. :)

It looked much better on the animal, or animals, it belonged to. If it doesn't make you look tough, it shows people that you bear watching.

Ugh. I hate leather. I think it's ugly. I don't know very many people that feel the same way, though.
