No, weed should never be legal. It is dangerous and it is a drug!!! There is a big difference between alcohol and drugs (of any kind). Smoking pot causes lots of harmful side effects in anyone. I used to do it and because of it I have lost a lot of memories from my past. I am now a mother and would not want my child or any who is near my child to be smoking pot. What if teachers were doing it and bus drivers and bankers? Our children would grow up stupid because they are not being taught anything and the list goes on and on and on. Any drug is a drug and there are no minor drugs. You either do them or you don't and Thank God they are all still illegal!!!!!

You are grossly misinformed. Inhaling all of the tar and resin, and countless other chemicals, is harmful. It does affect your brain and your speech. Pot today isn't a harmless little joint. It is far more powerful. It is grown to have a higher concentration of chemicals that affect different parts of your brain.
If you already have an illness not yet diagnosed you are putting yourself at a disadvantage. If your happen to need emergency surgery and no one knows you're high it will put you at risks, such as dieing while under anesthesia. During an emergency situation, doing a blood toxin lab is not always possible. The THC will interfere, how would anyone know how to safely dose you for pain management?
Marinol is a derivative of a COMPONENT of marijuana. It is used for cancer patients to increase appetite and promote a feeling of well being, and decrease pain levels. Aspirin comes from the willow tree bark, but we don't feed people willow bark. Why? Mostly because because you can't measure the dose of salicylic acid. The component of the bark that is needed. So how do you know how much THC will be in your blood BEFORE YOU SMOKE? The answer is that you don't know, and therefore you don't know what you're buying. And hey guess what < EACH PLANT WILL BE DIFFERENT>
These thoughts of yours are very shallow, and your argument reflects your lack of knowledge. I don't mean to hurt you or insult you ...but geeeeez!

People who feel as though it should remain illegal need to educate themselves on WHY it is illegal to begin with.
See the following industries and you will find your answer....
Cotton
Tobacco
Paper
Pharmaceutical
Alcohol
Oil
and the list goes on....
If weed is so bad, then why are pharmaceutical companies trying to develope a SYNTHETIC drug to do the same thing as weed...
And since hemp fibers are 4 times stronger than cotton...wouldn't you like for your children's clothes to last longer...I know I would...my 7 year old boy goes through a pair of jeans in about 3 months....
And again...the list goes on...
Follow the money...that's all you have to do...
And for those that think that it is the devil and serves no purpose...that just shows how ignorant and brain washed by the government that you really are!!
EDIT TO ADD----
Did you know that marijuana was initially made illegal to arrest Mexicans...they were known to smoke marijuana and the government wanted to get rid of them.
Look it up!
EDIT---
See Vincent G below for the typical unthinking, brainwashed person that I am referring to.

I agree with you. I think that if pot was legalized it would put a lot of drug dealers out of business so that the police would be able to focus their time elsewhere. Marijuana is natural and I think alcohol is far more dangerous. If people want to smoke a little bit of pot in the privacy of their own home, what is the big deal? I really think that it's not legalized now because the government doesn't think they can make any money on it, it's too underground.

Obviously you do not have children. Do you want your children to grow up being told that it's "okay" to smoke weed because it doesn't hurt anyone else? What a lie. Smoking weed is dangerous. It causes lung disease, cancer and can cause brain damage through years of use. It also is addictive. I know friends who battled to give it up and they admit it was difficult. One friend smoked it for so long and so often that it has changed him...He is a bit on the "airy" side. And if it is legalized, do you want the school bus driver of your childre to be able to legally use it? Do you see to all the problems and other doors that open to this. "It doesn't hurt anybody else". That's a lie. It hurts society as a whole and you need to rethink this one. A society in a drugged-up haze is weak....your enemies would love for you to be this way so they could trample you.

If it's legal to drink alcohol
If it's legal to smoke cigarettes
Then why is it a crime to smoke pot?
This country spends over $80 BILLION A YEAR on a failing war on drugs. More people than ever smoke pot, snort coke, drop ecstasy, and shoot heroin, while the government wastes money pretending they'rer winning the war on drugs. Meanwhile drug cartels continue to make billions, and drug related crime in this country accounts for over 75% of all criminal offenses!
Here's an idea......take that $80 BILLION and pump it into our public schools instead! And if people want to smoke out while watching South Park, snort Coke at an orgy, or drop ecstasy in a warehouse party, that's THEIR choice. Just like smoking and drinking is a choice!

I couldn't agree more. But only weed since it doesn't have any side effects.
Probably the government wouldn't pass a similar law is because our government is conservative and they want to "conserve" their ideas and not change.
In Canada and Netherlands you can do that. I wish here it would be the same and it will some day, when our government will not be so close minded as it is now.
So next time when we vote, we will know who it'll be :)

Well take this into consederation...If the law was to pass the right of drugs into the states, then coming out of canada, mexico, hawii, and other places,.. would be nothing but drug lords providing illegal substance to our teens. What do you feel like when you know 75% of our teenagers are high off illigal substances, and they were our future president? make since now?

Your point about drinking vs. weed is true, but don't try bringing that up around authorities. i tried that and i got the "want us to make drinking illegal too?" speech.. but it's so dumb. many people i know smoke weed and they are intelligent in a unique way. they know themselves so well. weed's affects aren't as bad as alcohol and i don't see what is wrong with getting away from life's stresses. esp w/ out a hangover

People that want to control every aspect of existence in everyone's life must have a "War on Something" to maintain that control. I no longer smoke anything but I still no "tons" of people who do and they hurt no one...not even themselves.
