These people are at my work place. There is one of me and many of them. I can not avoid them. I am becoming the person I always feared to be.

In some ways, yes. I used to hang out with a friend almost everyday who had a lisp. When talking to her, I found myself beginning to lisp occasionally. It happens to people all the time when they hang around people with accents, a lot of time it's the Southern accent which seems to get contagious. It's strange. As for actual 'actions', that's a bit different. If you are easily influenced by peer pressure, it can happen. I know I have a drinking problem and if I hang out with a bunch of drunks I tend to drink way more than I want to. BUT, I do know that if I was hanging out with a murderer, I wouldn't suddenly start murdering people too. My old boss had a very crude sense of humor and he cursed ALL the time. Being around him, I found myself cursing more often and becoming a bit of a nastier person. I had to put some distance between us.
Sometimes I think it's a subconscious coping mechanism. It can make uncomfortable situations easier to deal with even though the best thing to do is get out of the situation sometimes. You act like the people you are around so that they will feel more comfortable with you and find you less of a threat. If they seem comfortable around you, you then feel more comfortable because you 'fit in'. Like some sort of natural instinct thing...

sure, you do take on the features of the gang. it rather is spoke of as 'the herd mentality' and is a survival mechanism to keep away from being 'the unusual guy out' and expelled. terrific desires
