Go with a name you both like, just for the sake of peace-in-the-family. If you don't dislike it, I think Amadeus is kind of cool. Unusual while still being a real name, not like "Apple" or "Pilot." As for the possible school teasing, if he turns out to be a nice kid, it will be a non-issue. Besides, in my gradeschool daughter's small group-of-acquaintances, there are 3 Ashleys, 3 Emilys, 3 Jasons and 3 Tylers. Stand up proud, Amadeus !

While I think Amadeus would be GREAT as a middle name, I agree that as the main name, it wouldn't be a great choice. I think kids would probably pick on him. I love the idea of naming him something like Jason Amadeus, or Nicholas Amadeus. But, there aren't any nicknames that you could call him from Amadeus, so it's not the best choice. However, it's your call. Good luck.

Don't listen to anyone but your wife. Choose the name that you both together want. Then, the rule is, don't tell anyone until the baby is born.
See, when you pick a name, I've picked three with my wife, the name gets associated to other people you have known or heard of in your experiences. Different people have different experiences. So, even if you picked John, the most common male name in America, there would be some number of people who would tell you to go for it, and some number who would say not to. But these people are imposing their experiences onto you.
Instead, how does the name make you feel? Are there any nicknames or pet names you can create. For example, my second is named Nathan, but we call him Nate, and when he was a baby we called him Na Na with a hard A. My third is Sophia, and I call her Pia and my wife calls her Sophie.
But the bottom line is, pick names that you and your wife like. Don't listen to what people say on this thread, we won't have to live with him.

I think it's better than Wolfgang, which was Mozart's first name (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart). I'm an advocate of atypical names. So many people have very common names. I have a very common name. It's like if I'm at a store, park, mall, etc. and someone calls my name, then myself and half the store turns around to respond because it seems everyone has the same name. I always wished my name was something different to make me feel more unique. Don't worry about what people say is going to happen when he gets to school. If he isn't picked on for his name, then it will be something else. Sad truth is that kids are going to pick on other kids no matter what. They will always find something to tease about. If you like it, go with it. I think it's awesome.

Its a beautiful name, you always hear the same old names when working with children and its so boring but with a strong name like that he'd be so cool. also he will be able to say 'I'm named after Amadeus the famous musician'!! You could choose a more common middle name if you wanted so that as he grows older if he really has a problem with the name he can use his middle name instead.

kids these days can be so cruel and i think amadeus would be doing him a huge injustice. why not think of a name named after someone famous or influensual from a more modern time? or maybe have a look down through both parents family tree as you'll be surprised what names you find. Our son is called Jackson, not for any particular reason otherthan we wanted something "boyish" trendyand unusualbut not too wacky!! Goodluck with whatever you go for

Its Certainly Very Unique. I Personally Wouldn't Use It But It's Your Baby So Whatever You Think Goes, It's Entirely Upto You. But You Only Get To Name The Baby Once, So Be Creative And Find Some Unique And Interesting Names. Maybe Something Double Barelled?

One contributor mentioned that half the store turns round when she hears her (very common) name called. That made me think that one good test of a name would be, "How would this boy feel if I called out this name to attract his attention in a store, or worse, at a sporting event, in 10, 15 or 20 years time? Amadeeeuus! mmm.
At the local comprehensive? Maybe not.

Amadeus is a big name to live up to! If he doesn't like music then it'll be a bit silly as well... how about Adam? similar sound, and not quite as controversial... or call him Sebastian, after Bach...
As for putting Amadeus as a middle name, it can work... but be a bit careful- you could end up making an embarrassing three letter word with your son's initials- 'Frederick Amadeus Trotter' 'Scott Amadeus Denison' etc...
