is there any information on signs that have certain characteristics due to the day that they were born?
i'm a sagittarius, so are there any time spans which make me different from others of the same sign? like from dec 8-18, for example?

Well, there are the 3 decans per sign. the first being ruled by in your example jupiter. the next by the planet ruled by following sign of the same element..in this case fire-aries...so mars. the third decan ruled by ruling planet of the next elemental sign. Sun.
And then on top of that...your moon sign changes as well. Longer span later, your venus.

There are two ways to divide it... one system breaks up each sign into decantes or 10 degrees, so from 0 to 9 degrees is one decante, 10 to 19 degrees the second and 20 to 29 degrees is the third... there is another system that slightly alters the sign's description a little for EVERY day...

Not only a 'day' makes a difference, a time and where all the other planets were at the time of your birth. Astrology makes generalizations for the lay person, but it's really, really in depth if anyone looks at all the aspects.
