I have an aquarium plant that I bought at Wal Mart when I set up my aquarium. I have no idea what kind of plant it is but it is overtaking the aquarium, can I split it and give 1/2 away to make it smaller or trim it or something.... what do I do?

Some will split well while others won't. Most sword plants will survive being split, while bulb plants probably will not when they are actively growing. If you can post a pic of the plant I can tell you much more.

Yes u can trim them but little care should be taken for some plants. T riming is good for the plants to grow better and faster. You can cut them from where new roots are established, so u can get new plants from them. You can replant them in tank. or u can put them in sunlight to dry them and use that as food for some fishes like mollys, guppy which loves that.(good food supplement)

yes, marine plants are usually very hearty and hard to kill. Trimming might work and splitting should be done like any regular plant, the halves should grow just fine.

Yes, trimming is an important aspect of keeping live plants. How to go about it depends on what type it is, but it's usually fairly self explanatory

no potting soil! you cant on no account do a gravel clean ever returned!!! the walstad approach is previous college anymore! it will be a muddy mess and not a powerful theory to apply any dirt or potting soil! you will need co2 for terribly almost any carpeting plant nand alot of sunshine! alot!, what length is the tank? 2-3 watts per gallon for medium -intense easy tanks, a million watt per gallon for low easy tanks. I even have had over 50 planted tanks and purchased plant life for some years on line and have had great lush tanks with co2 and alot of sunshine! we could say 10g tank, placed 30 watts or greater 6500k over it for bigger easy you need to use eco complete for substate ( the superb imo) or your gravel and get some seachem excel for the co2 there are diy strategies for co2 yet there crappy except united statesa. on appropriate on them each and every few days. circulate seek for the planted tank talk board, its the superb and has the superb data on it. dont waste your funds! circulate do learn on the planted tank on what u can develop with your lighting fixtures and tank etc
