There are many differing opinions on this. The best advice for you is to do what you feel comfortable doing. If you want to throw your own shower and your friends and family don't see a problem with it, then do it. If you feel the least bit insecure about throwing your own shower then get someone to play hostess and you both plan it. There's nothing wrong with throwing your own shower if you feel comfortable doing so. Times are changing as are traditions. Just do what you feel comfortable with.

Can you do it? Why of course. Would I suggest it? No.
The 4 main people that are considered taboo to throw the baby shower are the mother and father as well as either of the grandmothers.
It should be a close friend or female family member.

I really don't think it's wrong but I would feel a little embarrassed. A baby shower is about giving/getting gifts so you're throwing a party so that people could bring you gifts.
I would ask a very close friend or sister to talk to some people and arrange it.

Are you throwing your own because you are a perfectionist and everything has to be just so...or are you doing it because no one else will? Because if it's because no one else will, I think that is really shameful no one else is doing it for you. If you are going to throw yourself one though, try waiting until very near the end, maybe you have a surprise one coming, you never know.

personally i would find someone else to do it, why would you want to add any extra stress on yourself by planning your own baby shower! you should be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy it not worry about reservations, or getting food, and the cake, and games, and stuff like that.
But if you like to do that sort of stuff then more power to ya! enjoy!

I threw my baby shower and it was great .I got to pick everything which made me very happy. I picked the food, the games, the prizes I just got to sit back and watch the fun. We did a great game where you write names on small pieced of paper and on one piece your write your baby's name, then you place the papers in balloons and everyone has to sit on the balloons to pop them to find the right name. It was so hilarious to watch.

If you really really have to do it yourself, don't call it a "shower". Invite people for a get together to celebrate your final days of being pregnant or something like that

No, it's fine but usually people don't do that. You already have so much to deal with as it is so it is just so much easier and fun on you when someone does it for. It is supposed to be fun for you, so try to have someone do it for you, so you can be more surprised. Because when ppl. throw one for you they usually get hostesses so that they can get you a reallygood hostess gift.

Yes. Very, very tacky. Sorry. Have someone throw it for you, like an aunt or a best friend. If nobody is willing to do it, tell them they will officially "host it" but you will help them with everything (take the majority of the work off them.) Good luck!
Baby showers are also tacky for the second or subsequent child.
