Practice, practice, practice.
If you were a good flute player in high school, you should still have the necessary skills and knowledge. The big problem is just to get the skills working again, and that will only come through practicing them.
Don't blow harder - that will only exhaust your air, and will worsen the problem of unnecessary air blowing. Tighten your embouchure and try to get a more concentrated stream of air coming out. Find the "sweet spot" by rolling the head of the flute back and forth while blowing until you get the sound quality you are looking for. Maintain good posture. And practice.
Good luck.

The muscles in your embouchure just need to be built up again. With some practice you'll be back to how you souned in high school. The airy sound comes from not focusing the air correctly. Shape your mouth like you're saying "ooo" and make sure you're directing your air down toward the tone hole and not just straight across. The best way to improve your sound quality is to play long tones. Work your way up the chromatic scale and hold each note until you achieve a sound that you like and then slur to the next note. Try adjusting your embouchure and air while you're holding these notes and see what works for you.

are you able to performed a open hollow flute? Its makes enjoying the extreme notes plenty easer. if your flute would not have that or you won't be able to play open hollow flute its ok. you are able to make your mouth smaller. My mom whose my flute instructor tells me to make the little hollow seem as though a soccer yet tiny. additionally theres different fingerings. like the extreme E flat is each and all of the palms, thumb could be on the around key. additionally positioned so plenty extra air into it

everybody is correct with their answers but also make sure that there are no leaks in the pads. You said it has been sitting around forever allowing the pads to get hard and old. the harder they get the more likely a leak will occur. so check those. the tone will come.

Tighten up your embouchure. It should feel like you're smiling and trying to say "ooo" as in "food" while you're holding the smile.
