Those things are not intrinsically evil. They are macabre. You are entranced by the violence. It touches the aggressive blood-lust of your inner beast, that primal animal. By watching those things, you are safe but feel in control because you know the outcome. It gives you a sense of power.

We are born with both evil and good intent and we are taught at a young age that good intent usually gets rewarded and evil get punished which forces us to do good for the most part. It is much like if i told someone they can not have a candy bar this demand would make them desire it that much more. and on the other hand if i said you can have all the candy bars you want the desire to have it would not be present. By trying to deter us away from evil we desire to see why and although we know evil is wrong we still must witness it for ourselves. And this is all well and good but it is still just a taste which makes us desire more and more. searching out more and more details, and the more we get the more we want. some people can go a lifetime just tasting and some break and have to do the evil themselves if for nothing more than to see how it feels to have something so forbidden.

I think most humans have a ghoulish need to see what they really don't want to see.Having horror thrown into your face is very confrontational and possibly re-viewing it lets you take it in pieces and accept or compartmentalize it.
The human body has many self protecting devices for the shock of terrible scenes. For me, it was usually a "tunnel vision affect" and some times an "audio shutdown". Your mind is saying " I can't believe I am here seeing this" and then the little sensible part of your brain says " Well, you idiot, you are being paid to act on this...get to it". Then you compartmentalize the scene, finish what you have to do and play the re-runs later. Course you have too many beers when doing this, then you puke, go to sleep and, Voila, the next day you are fit as a fiddle!
I think all mankind experiences this. I don't know that it is dwelling on evil, but trying to deal with it.

It's a normal human feeling, like wanting to read or watch horror fiction, or riding roller coasters. Most humans like the kick of the rush of adrenaline caused by being scared and feeling relieved afterwards.

I think it's as simple as a fascination with things we don't see very often and things we don't understand... there's nothing unusual about it. Most of us don't see people killed very often... yet it's something we all think about... it's only natural to be curious about watching people die. Same with accidents, etc.
It isn't just death and accident videos that people watch, it's amazing videos... things that might not be gross or disgusting, but just things that don't happen very often... I'm sure most of us watch those too!
