They made a suprising move to me this year, not overpaying to keep slightly above average offensive guard Derrick Dockery, allowing Buffalo to pull a Dan Snyder move and give him $49 million. Youre right, they're set at QB with Campbell, and they have quite a few weapons on offense. The defense needs help. They made a strong move with the signing of London Fletcher-Baker and by NOT trading Rocky McIntosh to the Bears for Lance Briggs. They should keep him and the #6 pick. They need a pass rusher desperately, and the 6th pick guarantees them a good one. If they can move back into the draft between the 11-20 pick range, they can still secure a top line pass rusher in the 1st round and gain additional picks, which they need desperately. There are two players the Redskins could do without, fortunately for them, one of them is now a member of the Chicago Bears (Archuleta). The other one is Antwan Randle El, a wide receiver making #1 receiver money who is a slot receiver at best. He was overrated, which is why the Steelers chose not to break the bank to keep him. They should try to trade him for more picks or release him. This draft is loaded with WR talent, and they can get a slot guy for way less than him. The Redskins have not been the liberal spenders this offseason like they usually are, so this could be a good sign.

I don't think the Redskins need a heck of a lot. For everyone saying that they suck, remember, not long ago they ran the table on the last 3rd of the season and got a game deep in the playoffs. I honestly think they were a victim of circumstance last year. They had injuries at corner where they didn't have much depth. Portis got hurt and was not his normal self. They transitioned to Campbell, which can take time. They had an entirely new offensive scheme.
Granted, they were subpar in a few major areas. Their d-line was pretty horrible, which led to VERY few turnovers. The corner situation was bad. Their linebacker situation was not good.
I think they'll bounce back pretty well this year with what they've done. Fletcher gives them a leader and solid LB. Macklin and Smoot give decent corner depth. They'll also be in the second year of the same system, which is huge. I'm still concerned about the D-line though, which brings me to the main issue...
A very disruptive DT or DE.
Someone that needs to be double-teamed constantly will make the whole line better. They already have some talent with Griffin, Golston and Carter, but none are amazing. If one of the early d-line prospects like Branch, or Adams is available and works out well, it could affect the entire defense.

To answer your questions specifically...
I think they need a cornerback or two. If Springs gets cut, that's a huge hole in the secondary. Rogers was so-so. They also could use a safety, after they got rid of Archuleta.
They should give that Doughty guy all the playing time he can handle.
I think they need to give Betts the rock over Portis. Look what he did in a very short time as a starter. He was blowing up some serious yardage.
I'll bet they trade down and get several picks to fill holes on defense (secondary and maybe a D-end.)
I think they'll be decent next year. They have a lot of good young talent.

Well considering the Deadskins only have like 4 picks (1st round, 5th round, 6th round, 7th round) and literally NO cap room to work with, they are screwed this year. They could use some O-line help. And a receiver to help out Santana Moss, the only good player on the team. A second TE to help out would work. An entirely new defensive line, because everyone on it SUCKED last year. An FS to go with Sean Taylor. Two new corners because I hate to tell you but, whatshisface that you got from the Vikings is washed up. Also a few linebackers to help out would be good.
Face it, the team sucks. When you take a 5-11 team, give it very few good new players, and only a few draft picks and no salary cap room, your team will suck once again. The Redskins, and I am serious here, should cut all of their high priced, overrated players. Two years from now, when all the cap penalties clear, they should start again. They have so many old, bad players with fat contracts that they do not have the cap room to sign good players and improve. Then again, that has never stopped Dan Snyder from buying everything he sees.

They need to get out of the NFC East if they want to win more games, that's a really challenging division to play in as of late. I thought they would do well last year..but they let me down. QB isn't something they need. If they draft a QB, why not trade Jason Campbell for a draft pick, that guy has some potential in him...I can see them drafting defense though, I doubt they'll go offense in the 1st round....defense is what they need to win, and a healthy Portis.

The Redskins need to calm down. No more spending millions and millions on free agents that we keep for a season or two then drop or keep on the trading block. Continuity is really important, because we have the 'core players' that Joe Gibbs is talking about. On offense, we should be focused on Santana Moss making the big plays, Chris Cooley to make the red-zone touchdowns, and Clinton Portis to kill the clock when we're up in the 4th quarter (very similar to Gibbs' first tenure with the Skins). On defense, we need a strong front 7. Our linebackers look to be in pretty good shape, with Marcus Washington and London Fletcher. Our D-line seems to be the weakest, with Philip Daniels getting injured. If we draft a good D-End, like Gaines Adams (if he's still available), we should be ok. Our secondary got butchered last year, but that was due to injuries and a lack of a pass rush. More than Shawn Springs, I think the Pierson Prioleau injury hurt us more because he's one of those key sub players the Greg Williams likes to use. And you have to remember that Carlos Rogers was lining up as our number 1 CB for most of the season, going against the best receivers on the other team. I;m really happy we got Smoot back, because I remember him as a solid CB who didn't try to go for the big hits or do stupid stuff like that. He'll help our Corners out alot. As for extra baggage, I think Brandon Lloyd is unecessary because he's essentially a Santana Moss, but not as good. I like Randle El in the slot, and as a punt return specialist. Lance Briggs will NOT help the team at all. We lose a first round pick, and we also get another linebacker, which we do not need, and we potentially open up a can of worms in terms of team chemistry. Not worth it. In terms of personnel, we need a General Manager. We need someone to tell Dan Snyder that doing this or that will not help the team, and not a 'yes-man' like Cerrato. With Gibbs around, it's not a huge problem, because Danny won't go against his wishes, but if we were to hire a new coach, it could be a big problem. We had something special in 05, and if we can get back to that team, with some motivation of being dead last in the NFC east, a NFC championship game isn't out of the question. Sorry for rambling....It feels good to get all this off my chest though!

I see a lot of blame going to Dan Snyder for the Redskins troubles as of late, and while I somewhat agree...I dont think it's all on him. The main problem with the redskins is director of player personnel (a fancy term for General Manager) Vinny Cerrato. Snyder's thing is that he is willing to spend to get whatever players the team needs. Most of the "talent" is evaluated by Cerrato (a childhood friend of Snyder's) and Snyder trusts Vinnys opinions enough to sign the big contracts. So that part is on him, but as far as the players they bring in, thats more Cerrato. Everyone and their mother knew that Archuleta was a run stopping safety and could be exposed in the passing game, but what did they do? Signed him to the richest contract for a safety in NFL history and tried to drop him into coverage. Then benched him 10 games into said contract and cut him after the season. Some of Vinny's other large scale misses include Bruce Smith, Deion Sanders (both great players in their day, but signed for way to much money way too late in their careers), Antwaan Randle El (decent enough player, but way too big a contract), letting go of guys like Anotnio Pierce who went on to be a Pro Bowler, and using first round picks on guys like Carlos Rogers and Patrick Ramsey. Cerrato cant evaluate talent to save his life, and thats where the main problem lies. that said, the fact that he and Snyder are so buddy buddy works against Redskins fans. It's hard to believe that Snyder would ever fire Cerrato. I dont think they'll get back to prominence until Vinny leaves.
Think of it this way, George Steinbrenner essentially does the same thing, builds his team through free agency and not the draft/minor leagues (have you seen the Yankees farm system?...ugh). However, Steinbrenner has a great GM in Brian Cashman who tells Steinbrenner where to spend his money WISELY. Now, while the Yankees havent won the Series in 7 years, theyve alwasy been a contender. The same cant be said for the Redskins.
So, to answer your question, for the redskins to contend this year, they need help in pass coverage, on the offensive line, possibly at quarterback (Campbell may be ok, havent seen enough of him yet) and probably some linebacker depth. It'll probably be another tough season for the Skins.

were given to experience undesirable for the skins - as they haven't any shot! Cowboys, Eagles and Giants it seems are fantastically close in alot of strategies - and by using this I propose they're all sturdy - and on homestead field i imagine all should be famous over the different. i imagine it comes all the way down to which qb do you imagine is gonna do the most proper this twelve months - qb play will be over-rated from time to time in the media - yet in this convention particular - each and each and every time dallas, or philly tank their QB is mostly no longer doing too nicely. The Giants in many circumstances produce different topics too yet Eli can disappoint and with a clean large settlement he might want to shine or he will be blamed. so in reality Dallas, Philly or NYG reigns perfect if their QB shines and both wins video games that are on the line or doesnt lose them by using throwing expensive turnovers ensuing in losses on sunday!
