Summer,
I live in Korea so I didn't know who Tom Joyner was until I googled it up. You are right.

I have a bigger problem with the ho calling.

Women have accepted being called ho's and b...itches for along time now because they think it's no big deal-WHEN IT IS A BIG DEAL TO ME. But when ppl get all loosey goosy about it and let the word leave their lips for a mass group of people to hear . . . then ppl have a problem???

I know it's really how it's used in context, but I don't think that's an excuse . . .

it's not cute for girls to call other girls those words, it just gives others a green light to do the same. . .

it all just gets confusing . . .

Here's the deal.... he did not get in trouble because he called them hoes, he got in trouble because he said that they were nappy-headed. I guess when your hair is nappy, that means you're black. Good job stereotyping yourselves, huh? I say this because I'm 1/2 white, 1/4 black, and 1/4 Asian. And yes, I got some nappy hair. My daughter is even less black than me (her dad is white) and that chick's hair is a nappy mess in the morning if I don't brush it out and braid it back the night before.

I think it was just an excuse for Sharpton to get some more publicity.

Anyhow, I think it was said in poor taste. He was referring to the entire team, not just the black chicks on the team. The funny thing is that it's a double-edged sword. Just like when I was in high school, I said "n*gga please" to a black kid and HE decked me out because I was "racist" because I'm "white!" Funny thing is that I don't look white at all. I look like a mixed kid. Anyway, same thing happened to Imus. If Tom Joyner said it, people would have laughed it off, the ACLU and NAACP and NCAA and whatever other acronym I can't think of wouldn't have been called.

If anything, it was a great career move on Imus' part!

Imus DOES have a problem - the problem though is that he's an old man trying to remain competitive in an ever-changing market, while fully recognizing that the culture is becoming "blacker." In order to remain relevant, he has to try to sound hip. After all, "nappy-headed hos" is what a popular black personality might say in the situation.

So either way, the old white man is damned. Either he is irrelevant or he is unemployed.

Even Martin Luther King is spinning in his grave.

It's cool for N****s, to call each other N****s, but when white people call a black person that, thats racist. What in the hell is this world coming to?? If calling someone a nappy headed hoe isn't acceptable, why in the hell is there BET tv ?? That should be taken off the air as well. What complete crap. Look up Jesse Jackson's bio: Remarks about Jews
Jackson has been criticized for some of the remarks he has made about Jews and Jewish issues: that Nixon was less attentive to poverty in the U.S. because "four out of five [of Nixon's top advisors] are German Jews and their priorities are on Europe and Asia"; that he was "sick and tired of hearing about the Holocaust"; that there are "very few Jewish reporters that have the capacity to be objective about Arab affairs"; [11] In addition Rev. Jackson had referred to Jews as "Hymies" and to New York City as "Hymietown" in January 1984 during a conversation with Washington Post reporter, Milton Coleman.

This is okay for him to do???

Imus has been ridiculing people for years anybody that has ever listened to him even once- knows this.
I would bet $ these girls on the Rutger's team didn't even know who he was and would never have heard what Imus said if it hadn't been repeated by hundred of news agencies in print and over the air waves for the past week.
I would think by this point in their lives, they would have heard far more offensive language directed their way and meant to harm them.
People need to grow up and quit being such darn crybabies- if you don't like what the man has to say- tell him so and let it go.

The line he crossed is double yellow for white people, and a ''passing lane'' for blacks. Thanks to the liberals, not only can black people call white people names, they can even demean people of their own race (I have to wonder why they choose to do that).

P.S. Just so you know, Imus has been calling blacks as well as other minorities names for 40 years, it's part of his act.

I agree totally. The man made a mistake and took credit for it. He has repeatly apologized for it and it should be done and over.
