You can pick up a 4" diameter cleaning brush at the local hardware store or home improvement center.
Basically it's a round brush attatched to a plastic coil about 20 feet long.
Pull the drier & flex hose attatchment. Remove the outside dryer vent cover.
Start feeding the brush through the vent pipe (brush end first)
If it's a long run, & you run out of coil before it reaches the outside, hit it from the other end.
Clean up as much loose lint as you can with a vacuum (shop vac if possible.
Reattatch dryer (replace vent hose if necess).
Set dryer to the lowest temp setting & start WITHOUT THE OUTSIDE VENT COVER ON.
When lint stops blowing out, reinstall the outside vent cover, & you should be good to go!
Hope this helped, good luck!!

If it goes to the roof, none of the answers given will work. There is a screen on the roof cap. This keeps bugs, birds, rodents, etc. from getting in the pipe. If you cannot get on the roof, I recommend having it cleaned by a professional. There are many services that specialize in dryer vent cleaning. Less than $100.00. If you deside to clean it yourself, I suggest removing the screen. Drop a strong weighted rope down the vent till it comes out the bottom. Attach a rag to the rope and pull down and thru the pipe. Make sure you have enough rope left on the roof so you can pull it back up if it gets stuck. Run it back and fourth . Be sure to reinstall screen.

Remove the vent cap, and use compressed air like from an air compressor. Seal up the inside piece of vent around the air nozzle and spray away. I recommend if the vent can be removed the easiest way is to take it outside and use the garden hose to spray it out. In your case that isn`t an option, so I would go for the air.

as others have said, vacuum it out with a hose if you have one. You can run a coat hanger in it but sometimes they use the flexible plastic corrugated tubing and the hanger could tear it and then that would be another problem.

normally the pipe is removable from the outside, if not the outside cap is removable.
Other than that, vacum cleaner will do a good job as will a hanger wire.

Is there any way you can stick a vacuum hose up into it? Or possible a coat hanger (I like the vacuum idea)

If you have a leaf blower, use it to blow out the line. Take the vent screen off of the outside of the house, and let her blow.

put your vacuum hose in the pipe and suck the cotton/lint out and/or blow it through.
once out, spray silicone inside and later when dry, the lint will flow easier.
