I was thinking about moving to Italy for about 6 months or so. Has anyone had this experience? What's the first step to take? Please tell me about your experience.

I have. First thing you want to do is learn a bit of Italian. When I visited Italy very few people understood english. Next thing you need to get a work visa or something similar from Italy if your going to stay over 3 months and will be working. Find out where you want to go and apply at that countrys conulate. Italy is a Buetiful place. Have fun there.

I moved from New Zealand to England. I admit I was only going to live there for a year or 2 (but I came back because my mother was ill in the end). Everyone kept saying how brave it was.....I didn't think it was that bad. Also I found e-mails, phonecalls and texting (sms) helped keep me "in touch" and its only a plane ride back again. I only had a cousin that I knew there, but I made some good friends (expecially ex-pats or other foreigners, who have a better understanding of moving to a new country or people who have travelled themselves) and would think about returning there in the future.

Yes, I moved to Germany 16 years ago. It was the best thing I ever did - I never went back to the US because I find the lifestyle too restrictive. Other places are much more free than the USA, and work laws are more friendly for employees.

We moved from Canada to Barbados does that count?
First you need to find out how long you are allowed to stay in ther country of your choice.
And if you want to work, what permits will you need?
Unless money is not a concern - you will want to know about the cost of living, health insurance and so on.

I vote "go for it" living in another country is a wonderful experience!

I've been wanting to move to England for a few years now, but dont have the funds. I've been looking at traveling abroad for school, I think thats a good way to get your foot in the door, and while you're in school over there, you'll meet people who can help you settle in if you decide to move there.

First you need a visa, without a governement sponsorship (ie you prove to the government why they need you) the most you can stay in most places is 6months on a student or work visa.

the air force sent me and my wife to Germany for 4 years. it was awesome. to do it on your own, you need a passport and a plane ticket.
