I have put down a few bad reads but which ones have been so bad you just wanted to know how it ended?

Geez, I have a lot.

"Tess of the De'Ubervilles" was horrible. I was given it to read for a project, but I wanted "The Once and Future King". My teacher said if I finished "Tess" and could tell her what it was about, she'd let me switch. She thought it would take me longer, but I had it done in like one day, complete with a long rant on how bad it was and what I didn't like.

"Ivanhoe" was horrible. I never made it past the first chapter. Six pages to describe a meadow. Ick!

"Incubus Dreams" was really bad. I'd rather reread "Tess" then "Incubus Dreams"! It was long, boring, and pointless with no plot.

"Dracula". Never could get into that book.

There's more, but I can't remember the titles.

All the books I have hated but read to the end were Eng Lit books at school. The absolutely most boring thing ever written is 'The de Coverley Papers' which is a compilation of essays by Addison and Steele. It put me off the classics for a long, long time. Apart from school, I have never read a bad or boring book to the end. The worst one which I threw down in disgust was by Margaret Drabble, known by Private Eye as Margaret Drivel. They are so right!

The Great Gatsby has to be the worst book I have read to the end. I can't believe that so many people refer to it as 'The Great American Novel.'

It wasn't even in the same league as Kerouac's On The Road or Twain's Huckleberry Finn.

I've given up on a few bad ones too. The Alchemist is the worst book I've ever read by a long way.

The Brothers Karamazov - hard work

Ullyses - tried three times now, still haven't made it to the end

Fathers and Sons - the character of Bazarov is irritating beyond belief

Jeffrey Archer's 'Prodigal Daughter' I got through the first ten pages before I threw it away in disgust. How can this man be a best-selling author? It's s hit.

Usually I will put down a book I don't like and won't read it to the end.

I have a slightly different take on this. I liked Michael Crichton's _Timeline_ *until* I got to the end. That book had one crappy ending.

Tess of the D'Urbavilles - yes, you guessed it, text for A level. A squireen (no less) with a bold and rolling eye, and a character called Angel ( no subtlety there then) representing the opposition of 'good'people to Tess, an unmarried mother.
I have never read Hardy since

100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Most of the male characters had the same first name! I had to refer to the family tree in the front of the book a lot.

I read it in Spanish in college and in English for my book club.
Incredibly tedious and dull. (Sorry, Senor Garcia Marquez). I just didn't care for the book in Spanish or English for that matter.

The Contemporary History of Europe by Barraclough. It was the hardest 215 pages I ever read.
