There wouldn't have even been as much fallout as apologizing.

He was trying to take the heat. I'm black, and I still think they should not have let him go. (msnbc) It doesnt solve anything. Those words originated in the black communtity, not Imus in the Morning. The media is a rest haven for hypocrites.

Imus should've followed a page from Ann Coulter's book.

Ann Coulter refused to apologize for calling Edwards a f*ggot at the RNC, in which she was cheered and applauded by the GOP in attendance.
Ann explained using a derogatory hate-term against gays as being a joke and the good Christian CONservatives still support her.

Imus should've done what Coulter did, and told everyone to calm down, and that he was only joking.

It worked for Coulter, why wouldn't it work for Imus?

Imus should have gone directly to the Rutgers team and apologized quickly. Instead he did what a typically biased white person would do, which is head straight to an intermediary, as if he assumed that Al Sharpton is the black people's Messiah.

Actually, I think at his core, Imus is kind of a softie. I know he truly loves the cancer kids at his ranch which he built with his own money and that he supports a lot of other charities. While I personally don't like it, his mean-spirited, nasty schtick is just that...a schtick. Consequently, I think that when there was such a furor over this stupid statement, it really did make him feel bad.

Imus was wrong, but yeah he should have told Sharpton that he was going to beat him like he owned him.

Im thinking that Imus' OFFENSIVE game rocked but his DEFENSIVE game sucks. Hence, he is desperately and bitterly losing this game.
But if you really wanna hear those words, let me help...
"GO SCREW YOURSELF!!!"
There.. all better now.
:-)

He is a bigger man than the fools that criticize him.He admits he was wrong but you will never hear that from Sharpton,Jackson or any of their cronies.

He'd lose his job. Hopefully he'll lose it anyway.

If it were a matter of him presenting some contraversial views-- especially if he was normally antagonsitic-- it would be oen thing. But.. blatant racism from a guy who pretends to be normal really calls for a different kind of PR.

He should have.

I am black and I love my black people, but really, this is TOO much.

Imus should have never gotten fired.
