It is not related to a disease. It is also considered normal, but many times is an symptom of an underlying condition.

Most likely there is an underlying medical reason for why most of your family does not sleep breathing thru their noses. The most commen reasons are obesity, sinus/allergy problem, or a deviated septum. All of these are very common, but should not be ignored. Your doctor can help you diagnose if this is a problem for you.

Probably not. More likely a physical blockage such as a diviated septum in the nose, maybe some sinus problems, allergies, tonsils. Since it is multigenerational, I'd say it's more a physical condition due to structure and not something like obesity.

Probably due to a stuffed, blocked, or clogged nose. Try blowing your nose frequently before bed and using a nasal spray.
