I think that a good warm up exercise is jogging and definately stretch a little. Swimming you use your arms quite a bit, and jogging to use your legs, but stretching warms and loosens the muscles.

i always do some stretching exercises before i swim..it's actually vital that you stretch. Warming up your legs before swimming is also good, like kicking them in the water-after you stretch of course.
