The top of the tank is all rusted, so the gas spills out, so I need a funnel with a hose that I can stick down past the little trap door and actually get the gas into the tank. Once it's past that, it's fine, it's just that the top of the gas tank has rusted away. It's a 1991 car and I don't want to put money into it. Can I buy such a contraption somewhere and for how much?

You can buy funnels of varying sizes at Autozone or Pepboys. They will have one that works for you for about $5-$10.

For safety sake you need to replace the filler neck. You can get a good used one from an auto wrecker and replace yourself or have someone do for you. Is not difficult to do. Also with a defective fuel system you car should not pass the air pollution test.

Sounds to me like your driving a death trap. Gezz!! Get rid of the car and buy a new one before it catches fire someday.

Just don't carry any passengers so when that death trap explodes no innocent people are burned to death. Good luck with your slow, agonizing death.
