They have a very unique job. They can't help you. They have to help you help you. You are the one that has to find a way to make peace with what you just said. They ask you how you feel about your story because exactly after you tell the story, and your emotions are at a peak, is the best time for you to stop, take a step back and look into yourself. Asking that kind of makes you take a breath and think about how it makes you feel. Doing this may just help you unearth what the root problem is. Therapists cannot just go out and tell you who or what is to blame and what you should do. You have to find that out for yourself, they just hold a light for you to help you find your way.

Despite the tears that are rolling down there eyes, patients really don't know what they feel. Therefore, the therapist makes them sit back and really think about it for awhile.

because we have been trained to not express our feelings, just express our troubles. if you ever record yourself going to someone with your problems you will hear a list of things that are being done to you and things you did. NEVER will you hear how you feel. when you can pin point your feelings about what you did and said and what was done to you and said to you can you then start to change your pattern of being a victim or victimizing.

Because saying the name of your feeling puts you in better touch with knowing it. Crying because you are sad and saying you are sad really are two different things.

because they want to know what control it has and if it's anger ,frustration s,sadness ,etc...and how you should confont it personally-when you really look into yourself and examine it (which most people don't look that far inward) you really begin to understand it
