I feel that at times I am too soft and there are people who try to take advantage of me in terms of mentally. Would it be wise to toughen up, mentally fight back, or what is the best way?

Your question is short on context, but my first reaction is that instead of trying to change yourself, maybe you would be happier interacting with people who don't try to take advantage of you and who appreciate your easy-going nature instead of exploiting it.

well first of all being anice person is a good thing but when people take advantage of that then you need to do smthng about it.only toughen up when necessary like when they are making you feel used or whatever.help other people and take care of them but when it comes to them taking advantage of you you need to tell them exactly how it is if they don't listen then screw them-in the end you will know who the true hearts are

Yes, by all means do toughen up a bit.

People like ourselves must stand up for what is right and we must protect our standards. Never, and I mean never allow anyone to take advantage of you. If you really need people to like you or accept you for who you are, then you need to let them know otherwise, you'll always be a "pushover."

Good luck to you.

Sounds like me at times. You just need to know when is the right time to be hard and the right time to be soft. I had to adjust depending on the situation and the person or people I am dealing with.

Toughen up to the extent that you dont get taken advantage of, but dont scare people off or bully them. just be your self and treat others like you would like to be treated.

Continue to be the person you really are and connect only with others who can respect and appreciate you, but no matter who you're with you have the right to walk away from negative influences. Stay away from people who don't practice the wonderful art of kindness. It's really all about choice and you are the only person who can choose who you allow into your life.

I think you could practice asserting yourself more - just a little tougher. People do try to walk all over "mild mannered" folks.

Treat people the way you want to be treated. Don't be a doormat because people will use you if you let them.

yes, you need to stand up for yourself, and dont let other people push you around, they need to respect you, and you need to have self respect for yourself.
