It isn't just on his face, it is all over him. I know there is baby acne because my daughter had a mild case of it, but it was just on her face. I have never heard of it all over the body to such extremes. Also, I thought they got that around 3-4 weeks old, not just days old. The nurses told her that was what it was. I was wondering if anyone had experienced this problem with their newborn.

This is usually common yes. My daughter did this as well. They have been in the womb safe in their fluids and this is just the bodies way of getting rid of it through the skin. Don't worry it will clear up, if not the ped. will catch it. Tell them not to wash the baby everyday, it will dry the skin out and cause even more breakouts. Try Johnson and Johnson's sensitive skin lotion with aloe.

It is baby acne. I've seen it from the middle of the baby's chest, up over her head, and all the way down her back. It can appear any time after birth. There's no treatment for it other than to keep it clean (use a mild soap, like Dove) and dry. Do not put lotions or anything on it. If you ignore it long enough, it does go away. It can stick around for up to six months though and look REALLY ugly, but it's not uncomfortable for the baby at all. It's just the baby's body adjusting to being outside the womb.

Yes! - this is happening to my son now. He had acne on his face soon after birth and it got really bad on his face. Then it spread to his neck, back, shoulders, arms and legs. My pediatrician gave us samples of this cream called Locoid Lipocream and it began working after the first day of use. His face is completely cleared and the rest of the rash is drying out. I use it 3-4 times a day. I think it's only available by prescription and I'm going to ask my pediatrician for it just to have around for the future. I almost considered to stop nursing him because it could have been because of the hormones in my breastmilk, but now there is no need.

My daughter had this. I was nursing, and her pediatrician said she was allergic to something in my breast milk, and it turned out to be dairy. Babies that small have very sensitive and undeveloped digestive systems. I'm not saying that breast feeding is the culprit or to stop breastfeeding, so don't anyone freak out. But just because it is natural doesn't mean that mom can't be eating or drinking something that baby isn't compatible with. That may be something to look into if your sister in law is nursing.

eczema is what id say it is without seeing it..... My daughter has it badly, and it started on her face when she was a new born...... then on her body, I started using the cream the dr. had me get and it worked, and cleared her up, then i tarted using lotion all over her body daily, I dont need the prescribed cream very often, I put aveno oe gold bond ult healing on her and her skin says happy. Baby lotion was never enough.... It was like using nothing on her.

I bathe her everyday, always have but and she still loves to play in the tub..... If you moisterize there is no need to cut down on washing them...

I know sometimes babies react to the hormones of the mother through the breastmilk and that may trigger some rashes. I wouldn't worry too much, the poor guy may also just have really sensitive skin. They should contact their pediatrician for that and just keep on eye on him.

Probably erythema toxicum. It's self limiting and benign and will go away in a few days or a week. Nothing to worry about if this is what it is.

It is possible that it could be baby acne. However if it doesn't clear up in a few weeks the it could be eczema.

could be baby acne, or if the baby is on formula and its hives it could be a lactose sensitivity, or it could be something in the moms breast milk.
