Statistically speaking with all the stars in the universe, even if only a small portion had orbiting planets, there would be millions of planets capable of supporting life and it would be highly unlikely with all those opportunities for life to exist on other planets that no life would develop. Life could evolve into intelligent civilization many times older than our own of some far less developed.
Proof is another problem we can only see and explore the tiniest fraction of the universe. With our limited capabilities in terms of speed and technology we have barely been able to send unmanned probes beyond our own solar system, let alone actively seek out life on other planets.
SETI (the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence) is a program that uses large radio telescopes and arrays of radio telescopes to scan the universe for radio signals that could indicate they are from an intelligent source. So they capture audio signals traveling in space and filter out natural phenomenon and hope to capture a signal from a intelligent source. To date no success, but the universe is a big place and maybe someday they will find something.
You can also help by joining the SETI@home program in which case your computer will allocate it's unused processing power to help process the massive amounts of data collected by SETI

The proof is yet to be found, but the odds are in favor. SETI is the search for extraterrestial intelligence. one signal was once recieved, but could not be confirmed. However the leading researchers of SETI believe we will make contact within the next 10 years.

There is no proof and SETI is a program whereby readio telescopes are used to listen for signals from civilizations on other worlds. To date, nothing has been found.
