I was reading that it is about 1/2 the cost to have an existing deadbolt rekeyed instead of replacing it. Can any deadbolt be rekeyed and is this an adequate solution instead of having it replaced?

Actually, the deadbolt was installed by a locksmith in the first place. This is on a rental property I own, but I think there are a few "extra copies" of the key floating around out there. In any case, I would hire a locksmith; it seems that messing around with deadbolts/doorknobs is beyond my skill.
