yes of course it is the most important thing
you need to be able to trust that they will be there for you like a best friend
you need to be able to be critical about each other without hurting feelings
and most of all you need to be able to talk to each other like best friends do

I think it is more common than some people realize. In any marriage that can pass the ten year mark and still be strong, has to have a certain bond of friendship.
You know each other inside and out by this time. The good the bad and the unpretty. No one is perfect all of the time, and marriage requires being able to laugh at life, because it is always going to be a challenge in today's world.
In a sense, you can see how two become one... By working hard, and knowing When to call it a day, forget about everything else and focus on each other.
This can mean a variety of things... But most of all knowing how to read your soul mate and loving in an unselfish way...
My hubby is my best friend, and there is no one like him.
Some people might not understand it, some people want to be more independant of the marriage spouse, but I for one love walking through life with him, even on the days he gets on my last nerve. I am sure I get on his lots of times!

I think that friendship is what gets you through hard times.
I used to be best friends with Todd, but he hasn't handled the past few years as well as I have. I am hoping the marriage enrichment thing this weekend will help with that.
He did apologize to me the other day for has recent behavior--- and that did go a long way with me.

In a way I do, but in a way I don't. I'm not married, but my boyfriend of over a year and a half is my best friend, but then again he's not. There are some things I wouldn't even think of telling him, but he is the one person I confide in.

This question is why I believe in no sex before marriage. You get to know the person, get to be best friends before all that. My husband and I are best friends, we didn't start out that way, and it took a few years to get figured out, but yeah, he's my best friend and I think I'll keep him!

I'm best friends with my husband. Outside of my marriage, my best friend is a gay guy. I feel the need to state this because in one of my previous answers I said my best friend is a gay guy and told a little story about him dating an Australian and I don't want people confused. :P

Hmmmmm....I don't know how to define "best friend", really. My husband knows everything about me and still loves me and vice-versa, so is that a best friend? I have 2 girlfriends and one guy friend like that, too, though. So, maybe I have four best friends? And maybe I am just thinking too much!
