People have a problem with others who don't talk/dress/act like them? I hate being judged b-cuz I choose to act different. I don't choose to be a poser and act like them, so people hate me. Why do you think that is?

People feel validated in their own choices when they see others made the same choice. This is especially true of teen-agers and young adults who may not have compelling reasons for their choices. So correspondingly, they feel a lack of that validation when you choose a very different way.

Of course, if you really, really hate being criticized, you could change your style to be more conforming to expectations. But don't you think you would hate that even more? You need to be true to your own way.

You also need to be sure you are not just conforming to the non-conformist crowd. The test is this: can you appreciate something EVEN THOUGH it is popular with the average folks? Can you choose to buy what you like even though sometimes it IS acceptable? If your reason for buying it is that it will be an irritant to the people you wish to irritate (your parents? the other kids at school? your teachers?), that's not really being free and individual.

Herd mentality.I'm a nonconformist in an intellectual sense and I experience the same thing.People are indoctrinated in schools and society at large to act and think alike. It is easier to control a dumbed down populace that way.

People criticise others because maybe when they were younger the same thing happened to them, and now since there older and well dressed they feel as if they have the right to judge others. There just doing it as pay back......

Becuase people are only used to the social norm, what they see every day. They are afraid of what is outside this, or what they cannot understand.

People are afraid of what they do not understand or know. That's just ignorance in my opinion though.
