why is It important to help children protect themselves from abuse?

Because there isn't always an adult there to protect them.

If the kids are armed with the information they need to know when someone is stepping over the line, they can avoid the situation and not get hurt.

If they aren't taught about protecting themselves, the abuse will come out of nowhere - the kids won't understand it, and they will be scarred for life.

Children, being young, have not had the life experience and education that adults have and therefore are not aware (to the fullest extent) of the dangers in the world.We must protect children and teach them appropriate behaviour - and how to deal with a situation they aren't comfortable with.
We must stress to children that trust is important when growing up.... BUT we must also explain that not ALL people have their best interest in heart.... (ex if you get that bad feeling in your stomach when in a situation, trust your gut... get somewhere safe.... this being only one of the many important lessons)

We also must teach children that you should respect others and visa versa.... hopefully thus preventing them from staying in an abusive situation.

We are not born with most of the knowledge we need to survive in the world so it is our duty, as adults to inform and protect the children in the world.... it's a cliche but it's true.... children are our future.....

This is rather logic. If you help a child to protect him/her self from abuse, it may save their lives, keep them from getting scared for the rest of their lives. It may help them from being mentaly disturbed.
