I understand that they have the largest payroll and I also understand that they always win. Here is the problem these are stupid reasons to hate the team. There are a lot of owners in baseball with lots more money than george steinbrenner. George just wants to win, and he will spend whatever is necessary to make that happen. Is it that bad of a thing to have a passion for the team that you own? The yankees have History and a passion for the game. I remember in the 80's and 90's the yankees were terrible and people still hated them. What is it about them that makes people hate the team? I am a huge Yankees fan but I ould like opinions from both sides.. best answer get points.

the arguement that they "buy" talent is false. Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Mariano RIvera, Pettite, Melky Cabrera, Robinson Cano.. all of these players are from the Yankees farm system.

this is my point! learn about how the money in baseball is spent.. In fact did you know that the Devil Rays owner is the richest in baseball and if he wanted could outspend george! So the money arguement is not valid, just because george isnt cheap isnt a reason to hate the team.

the excuse saying that people are yankee fans because they win is bogus.. granted there are fans like this... but MOST yankee fans are DIEHARD. how many "
red sox fans or mets fans" do we now have. prior to 2004 i saw maybe 1 person who had a red sox cap.. now everyone has tehm.. now everyone is a mets fan.. so taht arguement is NOT valid sorry.

Just as the last time this question was asked, your stupid reasons to hate the team are actually legit reasons to hate the team. When one team can outspend another by 5 times, it stands to reason the team spending more is going to be hated.
(I really do not fault Steinbrenner for that - he is playing within the rules. I fault those who set the rules.)
You mention the 80s and 90s when the Yankees were bad, but you forgot the late 60s and 70s when they were worse.
But since you mentioned the history of the Yankees go back and study the complete history of the team and you will discover that hating the Yankees is just something passed down from generation to generation (my mother, from whom I got my love of baseball, also passed down her hatred of the Yankees to me).
It was said at one point that rooting for the Yankees was like "Rooting for US Steel".
Did you know that for a brief while in the 50's there was a rule against dealing with the pennant winning team from the previous year during the current season because the Yankees kept picking up players in trades to help them?
Why do so many people hate the Yankees? Because they are the Yankees.
(Now I know you will end up picking for the best post something along the lines of, "because other fans are jealous.")

Because they spend money so recklessly! Their payroll is WAY over every other team (except Boston). And no, they are NOT a lot of owners with more money than Steinbrenner (they ones that do, don't spend it like he does). Baseball shouldn't all about money!! And, they don't win anymore! They flop each time they get to the playoffs, recently! No one likes the overpaid...
The money arguement is definitely valid. The Yankees have 200 million dollar payroll!! The Red Sox and Mets come second at about 135 million dollarss. Over 65 million dollars. That could 3 STAR players. The rest of the league averages 75 million. With that money you should win the World Series every other year (at least).
Those players might have come through their farm system, but the money spend while they are in the MLB. They pay like crazy to KEEP them there! And then there is/was A-Rod, Sheffield, Randy Johnson, Jason Giambi, Bobby Abreu, Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, Mike Mussina, etc. These players are all payed more than 10 million!

I have to hate them because I am a dodgers fan. Just look at how many times the Dodgers have lost to the Yankees in the World Series. But I can see other reasons why people hate the Yankees. I think partly it has to do with the fans. Even teh ones that don't really like baseball and almost never watch it claim to be Yankees fans. I mean come on, just say you don't like baseball. Also, if they don't win it all it is like an insult to them, the fans, that another team is good enough to win the World Series. They look down at every other team, even the ones that are consistantly good. That affects more of why people hate them than the team themselves.

Many people don't care for Steinbrenner because he comes off as a jerk most of the time. Others don't care for the superiority complex the team seems to project. Still others don't like the dynastic teams and pull for the underdog. Personally, I grew up in the 50's and 60's when they played in the WS 9 times from 1955-1964, winning the WS in 4 of those appearances. These were, of course, great baseball teams. I found myself cheering for the underdogs in most of these series. I have a great deal of respect for the greatness of this team over time. This year will likely be another outstanding year for the Yankees.

The players do not play for the sport of it. They play for the money. And only the money. George wants to win no matter what, and paying some of these players as much as he does just so he can win, that is what baseball fans hate. It takes away from the sport of it all. The players are pompous, just as George is. Anybody can buy a team and build the team with money. But it takes a good owner and franchise to build a team. The Yankees don't do that. They buy their players. How sad.

People just get bored of seeing the same team win year after year. If another team had the history that the Yankees does they would be the most hated team in history, not the Yankees. Some are just jealous, and others hate a team who beats their team year after year.

Not EVERYONE does. They do have some misguided fans in New York who continue to live on Yankee PAST glory and think their club is always the best. Well, this year they certainly are not. Watch!! They will blame their collapse all on the hamstring of Mussina. Then they will boo him for getting hurt. That's why the Yankees are hated by those who do hate them.
Chow!!

Because it's easy to be a Yankees fan. Real baseball fans are there through thick and thin, not when the team wins all of the time.

i dont hate the players, its the fans who suck.how can you hate jeter, williams, posada, or rivera.im a red sox fan and i respect the way those guys play the game and act off the field.its the jackass fans that ruin it.and steinbrenner acting like a spoiled brat.but there is a little bit to saying they bought championships.they havent won the big one since paul oneill, scott brosius, chuck knoblauch or a healthy bernie williams havent been around.the latest crop of home grown talent hasnt produced a championship even with their core players still in tact.
