Think about how commercialized everything is nowadays and how none of it is real. The families portrayed in commercials for food products are all actors. The smiling faces on pharmaceutical advertisements are not real. The people are living, but the emotions and happiness are not geniune.

How does this affect our reality? Does it create a smokescreen, or does it enhance perspective?

Theorist started discussing this quite sometime ago, particularly those interested in using a dramaturgical analysis...Erving Goffman said that society has social actors that have a fake side to their presentation of self...He said their is a real fake, and a fake fake...sounds weird but you need to look into this work because it hits it right on the head...These commercials are symbolic people created to present a social construction of a situation and people...I think most commercials are unethical, and should be thrown out because they are heavy users of sex appeal, humor, and logic twisted to benefit their sales potential...

It definately creates a smokescreen. Everyone is soo worried about how they are perceived they forget what's important. ......don't you just love the world we live in?......do you know of any good hippie communes still standing?

everything is about fakeness.
mates are sought not by what kind of person one is, but how one appears and presents themselves.
lifestyles are no longer just about even keeping up with the Joneses, but keeping up with artificial images that the Jones could never afford.
we become obsessed with magazine images of plastic "beauty" and plastic surgeruy options rather than appreciating ourselves as we are.

beer comercials try to make it seem as though people are having a good time but in reality there are millions of people that are suffering because somebody says that you cannot judge someone just because they like to drink beer.
beer is wrong people get that in your heads.
