I am Italian and we usually have ancient history (until 476a.d) then medieval history (until 1492), modern history (until 1814) and Contemporary history. Is it the same for English?

Yes, it is the same, at least for the first two dates. Ancient history is said to have ended at the fall of the Roman empire, and medieval history ended with Columbus' discovery of America. The modern era began at that point as well, sometimes called the Renaissance or "rebirth" in French. I don't get the significance of 1814? Was that the official date of the start of the industrial revolution?

Our history tends to be more fragmented, post medieval came the age of enlightenment until about 1700, then the age of revolution ie industrial political and military. I would say modern History continues til 1914. Contemporary comes with the first attempts at world peace initiatives, Wilson and the League of Nations
